Mitchell + Palmer
When the attention experts chose moss
Mitchell + Palmer engineer first impressions for a living. For their own elevator landing, they chose a preserved moss wall.

The brief
Visitors arrive by elevator. The doors open onto raw industrial concrete, beautiful but cold. Mitchell + Palmer needed the first three seconds to say what a business card can't: this is a place run by people who understand attention.
The installation
A full-height preserved moss wall faces the elevator doors, built as layered terrain: deep forest tones, spring-green highlights, and sculpted mound topography that reads instantly from across the room. Floating on the moss is a matte black panel with the Mitchell + Palmer wordmark, backlit and glowing white against the green.
The contrast does the work. In a space of concrete and steel, the wall is the only thing that reads as alive, and the eye finds it before the conscious mind does.
The result
On walkthrough day, Mitchell + Palmer's own strategists stood in front of the wall and couldn't stop looking at it. These are people who manufacture attention professionally, who know every mechanism behind it, and it worked on them anyway.
That's the point of the piece. It doesn't ask for attention, and it doesn't need watering, light, or maintenance. It will look exactly this way in five years, whether anyone tends it or not: the first thing every visitor sees, saying we have this handled before a single word is spoken.
“That moss wall you guys did is incredible!! Really gives a nice welcome to the entry way. Well done. We’re stoked!”
Why it matters for your space
- Placement is the strategy. An elevator landing or lobby entry is the highest-leverage wall in a building, seen by every visitor at the exact moment first impressions form.
- Contrast amplifies. Moss reads strongest against industrial materials like concrete, steel, and blackened metal. The colder the space, the harder the wall works.
- Branding, integrated. CNC-cut, backlit signage mounted directly into the moss turns environment into identity: not a wall with a logo near it, but a single designed statement.
- Zero ongoing cost. No plant-service contract, no die-off risk, no light requirements. Installed once, flourishing indefinitely.
Every commercial installation includes a Certificate of Authenticity documenting the piece and its materials.
